1-May-2010 - Kennedy & Sellar join Alexander on final weekend campaign trail

Former Lib Dem Leader Charles Kennedy and ex-Provost Alan Sellar today joined Danny Alexander to campaign on the streets of Inverness as the General Election campaign enters its final week.

The trio were joined by supporters aboard a vintage MacBrayne's bus – borrowed for the day – to make the trip from Dingwall in the Ross, Skye & Lochaber constituency where Mr Kennedy is seeking re-election, via Maryburgh, Conon Bridge, Muir of Ord and Beauly to the Highland Capital.

29-Apr-2010 - Alexander urgers councillors to listen to Highland public over care homes' future

Danny Alexander has responded to reports that a business case review by Highland Council officials into the building of five new care homes has concluded that there is no business case for the programme to go ahead.

Mr Alexander said:

"It is deeply disappointing if this report by officials has reached the conclusion that there is no business case for care homes to be built.

19-Apr-2010 - Alexander urges young people to register and make their votes count

Danny Alexander is today calling for young people to make sure that they are registered to vote for the general election on May 6th.

Figures issued last month by the Electoral Commission suggested that 56% of those under 25 and eligible to vote were not on the electoral roll.

12-Apr-2010 - Tory call for fair fuel prices a con - Alexander

Highland Lib Dem MP Danny Alexander has criticised the Conservatives for claiming to support fairer fuel prices for rural areas, when Conservative MPs at Westminster have repeatedly voted against the use of European powers to introduce a lower rate of fuel duty for remote communities.

Mr Alexander said:

"The case for a fair fuel deal for remote and rural communities is absolutely clear.

12-Apr-2010 - Alexander & Scott Launch Highlands Manifesto

Income tax cuts, fuel duty discount and sustainable jobs are the key Lib Dem pledges in the Highlands

The Liberal Democrats today published their manifesto for the Highlands, setting out the party's key pledges to:

- make the first £10,000 you earn tax free - saving the vast majority of Highlanders £700 per year

- introduce a rural fuel duty discount, to help ease the burden of high fuel prices in remote areas

- support sustainable jobs with investment in green energy and IT infrastructure

- improve access to banking and secure the future of Post Offices through a PostBank

The manifesto 'Change that works for the Highlands' was launched in Inverness today by Scottish Lib Dem leader Tavish Scott and Highland MP and Lib Dem manifesto co-ordinator Danny Alexander.

Mr Scott said:

"The Liberal Democrats will deliver change that works for the Highlands.

10-Apr-2010 - LIBERAL DEMOCRATS WILL GIVE HIGHLAND PENSIONERS FAIR DEAL - ALEXANDER

Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey Danny Alexander has outlined Liberal Democrat plans which would benefit older and disabled people in the Highlands.

Mr Alexander today attended a coffee morning held in aid of Crossroads for Carers at Crown Church Hall in Inverness to discuss plans which will be in the national manifesto which he has written, and which will be launched next week.

News that the Government has dropped a controversial tax hike on furnished holiday lettings has been welcomed by local MP Danny Alexander.

After failing to secure consensus on their plans, Ministers last night announced that they were to be dropped.

Local MP Danny Alexander has today expressed dismay at the government's decision to drop the 50p phone-line levy that was to fund the roll out of superfast broadband in the Highlands. Mr Alexander condemned the Tory machinations that have caused it to be abandoned.

6-Apr-2010 - Alexander comments on Nairn pool demonstration

Local Lib Dem MP Danny Alexander today attended the demonstration by Nairn residents against the idea that Nairn swimming pool should be closed, one of the many options for cuts being canvassed in the Highland Council's public consultation.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Alexander said:

"Local residents are right to express their support for the Nairn swimming pool, and I hope very much that these strong views will be listened to when decisions are made.

6-Apr-2010 - Alexander launches re-election campaign - a strong voice for the Highlands and for fairness

Local Liberal Democrat MP Danny Alexander has today formally launched his re-election campaign - on the day that Gordon Brown finally goes to Buckingham Palace to call the election for May 6th. Mr Alexander will be campaigning this afternoon in Inverness with fellow Highland MP Charles Kennedy and Jim Wallace, former Scottish Liberal Democrat leader.
