Danny Alexanders statement regarding Kingussie Post Office:
22-Feb-2012
"I am fully aware of concerns in the local community. Communities like Kingussie need and value post office services and that's why the government has substantially increased investment in the Post Office network and ensured there is no closure programme. I will be in touch with the Post Office to seek reassurance about their intentions in Kingussie - so that the community can be sure that the Post Office intends to continue to serve the local community for many years to come.
"The reforms launched early in 2011 were introduced to enable Post Offices to stay open longer and for people to access more services through them. The improvements were set out to expand the financial viability of local post offices like Kingussie Post Office and secure the long-term future of the network - helping to prevent further closures of Post Offices which are essential to our local communities.
"The new 10 year service deal between the Royal Mail and the Post Office will guarantee the future of the Post Office network and ensure that there will be no office closure programmes."
