Kingussie Post Office could move round the corner from its current location on the High Street to The Paper Shop on King Street.

If the move goes ahead, customers could see the branch transformed into a new ‘local' model, that will mean longer opening hours, improved services and better accessibility.

Highland MPs Danny Alexander and Charles Kennedy will host their latest in a series of public meetings ahead of the Independence Referendum, in Fort Augustus this Monday (11th Aug).

The event will be chance for residents to get together and have a good natured chat about the referendum and the positive message of staying together in the UK.

Highland MP Danny Alexander today (Thurs 7th) got behind their local food counter in Nairn Sainsbury's store to learn more about preparing food and serving local customers.

Danny Alexander was welcomed by George Kitson (Deputy Store Manager) and Leanne Thomas (Counters Manager) at the hot food counters.

Responding to the Justice Secretary's statement to the Scottish Parliament on the routine use of armed police officers, Highland MP Danny Alexander said:

"This is a deeply disappointing statement from a Minister with a deeply illiberal record as Justice Secretary.

"It will further fuel anger about the routine use of armed police officers.

Highland MP Danny Alexander has written to SNP Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill asking five key questions that Highlanders want answers to over the armed police debate.

The Justice Secretary is due to make a ministerial statement to the Scottish Parliament as MSPs return from recess tomorrow (Tuesday 5th August).

Online retailers will now be expected to deliver goods to the Highlands at a fair price, following a UK Government announcement today (Thurs 31st).

The UK Government have announced that electricity consumers across the UK could take on the extra cost of providing energy to the Shetland Iles, saving consumers in the Highlands around £42 a year.

Last year, the extra cost of supplying electricity to Shetland, which was paid for by consumers across the North of Scotland, was £26.6m.

Scottish Liberal Democrat MP Danny Alexander is seeking a meeting with Police Scotland chief constable Sir Stephen House to discuss local concerns over the routine deployment of armed police in the Highlands.

Speaking after reports that armed police had been called to a disturbance in a fast food restaurant in Inverness, Mr Alexander said that Police Scotland must prove they have the flexibility to provide the sort of service that the Highlands deserves.
