ALEXANDER VISITS LOCAL JOB CENTRE TO PROMOTE YOUTH CONTRACT
5-Apr-2012
Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey MP Danny Alexander visited the Inverness Job Centre on Thursday to discuss the Youth Contract.
The visit was attended by key job centre staff and local employer Adrian Gray, of AJG Parcels, who pledged his support for the new scheme.
The £1 billion investment Youth Contract will help ensure that young people across the Highlands will have the opportunity to ‘earn or learn'.
Danny Alexander says:
‘The Youth Contract will deliver real new help to young unemployed Highlanders. By engaging with local employers, who are being offered wage subsidies of up to £2275 for taking on under 25s, this £1 billion investment will help ensure that every young person has opportunity to earn or learn. It is fantastic that local employers are engaging with the young contract and I would encourage more to get involved.
‘We all have a responsibility to ensure that young people's life chances are not blighted by long periods of unemployment. Working together with local businesses, the local excellent staff at Jobcentre Plus and the work programme providers, this new programme will help many young Highlanders to find work. And by increasing the amount people can earn tax free again tomorrow, we are ensuring that tens of thousands of working Highlanders will be better off this year.'
