Comment on the Crown Estates announcement
11-May-2012
Comment on the Crown Estate's announcement of the first two pilots of Local Management Agreements giving local communities more control of the coastline.
Speaking from the location of one of the pilots in Portree, Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said:
"I am delighted to be here in Portree harbour to visit the site of one of the first pilots of Local Management Agreements between the Crown Estate and the local community.
"These pioneering projects will give people living and working on the coast real control over the coastline and allow them to work with the Crown Estate to manage it for the benefit of the local community.
"I look forward to many more such agreements being introduced across the country to give local communities around the country's coast the power to shape development in their area. Together with the Coastal Communities Fund these pilots show our commitment to empowering these communities and enabling them to benefit from their local resources."
