ALEXANDER WELCOMES OFTS GREATER TRANSPARENCY IN HEATING OIL PRICES

31-Jul-2012

Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey MP, Danny Alexander, has praised the work of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), and the cooperation of GB Oils Limited, ensuring that customers' charges reflect their original quote.

In its 2011 Off-Grid Energy Market Study, the OFT identified concerns that some customers were being treated unfairly by some suppliers – by highlighting discrepancies between the original quoted price and the final bill.

Following action from the OFT, GB Oils Limited, the largest supplier of heating oil in the country, has changed its domestic heating oil contracts ensuring quoted prices do not increase from the time an order is made until the customer is billed on delivery.

Highland MP Danny Alexander says:

"Many people living in the Highlands depend on off-the-grid energy to heat their homes, particularly through the winter months; it is only fair that they are charged the same price upon delivery as their original quote.

"The legally binding agreement from GB Oils, secured by the OFT, is very good news for customers - ensuring that prices are transparent from the outset and helping people with their winter budgeting."
