ALEXANDER WELCOMES LOWER FUEL PRICES FOR INVERNESS

25-Jul-2012

A drop in local fuel prices, following the opening of the new superstore in Inverness, has been welcomed by Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey MP Danny Alexander.

Mr Alexander has long campaigned for more competitive pricing, in light of the extra cost of travel incurred by life in the Highlands.

Highland MP Danny Alexander says:

"This is a welcome move for the people of Inverness, who along with the rest of the Highlands have long faced a triple whammy of long distances, high costs and limited alternative transport. I've previously campaigned to ensure that Tesco treat Highland customers fairly when they were charging more for petrol at their Inverness stores over that charged to their customers in Elgin.

"From March this year consumers in the Scottish islands are already benefiting from a 5p per litre reduction in fuel duty in recognition of the higher costs they can face and I am pleased that the arrival of the Asda store in Inverness has already led to greater completion."
