ALEXANDER WECOMES FUEL DUTY ANNOUNCMENT

26-Jun-2012

Commenting on the news that the Coalition Government has decided to postpone the August fuel duty rise, Danny Alexander MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey, Chief Secretary to the Treasury and member of The Quad said:

"The coalition has always made clear that helping motorists hit by high fuel prices was a genuine priority and I know that our announcement today will be welcomed across the Highlands.

"I know that many people in the Highlands were concerned over the impact that the planned 3p rise would have had if it had came into force in August. Scrapping the increase was the right decision taken for the right reasons.

"This decision recognises that for many people in the Highlands running a car is essential and supports families at a time when they need help.

"Thanks to decisions this Coalition has taken, fuel tax is 10p a litre lower than Labour's plans, council tax has been frozen and income tax cut. That is the impact of Liberal Democrats in Government on your side.

"While the oil price is falling it is only right that the Coalition has ensured all of the savings can be passed on to families at the pump."
