8-Mar-2012 - Rimell enlists local MP to tackle A86 road sign 'hazard'
Highland Lib Dem candidate for Badenoch & Strathspey Gregor Rimell has enlisted the support of local MP Danny Alexander to highlight concerns over the hazard posed by new signage on the A86 near Newtonmore.
Road maintenance company Scotland Transerv has erected posts carrying chevrons, rows of reflectors and additional signage at potentially hazardous sections of the road, just where regular drivers on the road say they need space to avoid collisions with large oncoming vehicles.

Kate Stephen and Danny Alexander are calling for the Scottish Government to invest in the much needed Inverness Airport rail link, making use of the additional funds provided the UK Government.
In the Autumn Statement, £400million extra funding was made available for infrastructure projects across Scotland; and several major Highland projects are now overdue.

Following two very successful years, HIE have announced that they will be carrying out market research to gauge interest from prospective buyers. Although the facility is not currently for sale, the research is intended to be completed by the end of 2012.

Highland Parliamentarian Danny Alexander MP has welcomed news that the rollout of superfast broadband across the Highlands and Islands is proceeding on schedule.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) announced last week that they anticipate contracts for the necessary improvement works will be signed by August 2012 and that BT is now the sole bidder involved in the final stage of negotiations.

Running until 20 February and open to all 14-18 year olds, Chance to be Chancellor challenges young people to make informed decisions about how the country's finances should be run.

Organisations across Scotland will be able to apply for funding from the Coastal Communities Fund from April, allowing them to support the economic development of a wide range of projects including those that support charities, the environment, education and health.
Scottish organisations will be able to express interest from March and make formal bids on the £4m fund in April.
